2016 has been another successful year for the Sheep CRC with a number of major highlights delivered by each of our research programs:

Program 1 - Enhanced wellbeing and productivity

The new focus on predictive models rather than more intensive monitoring to predict future risks to wellbeing looks very promising.

Program 2 - Quality-based sheepmeat value chains

Outstanding progress has been made in calibrating dual-energy X-ray (DEXA) measurement of lean meat yield and understanding meat eating quality from a consumer perspective.

Program 3 - Faster affordable genetic gain

The genetics team have developed a new DNA-based prediction of average flock breeding values as well as developing and launching a new version of the RamSelect app.

The new version of the very successful RamSelect app was launched in time for the 2016/17 ram selling season at LambEx in August and it has been extensively used since then. New features of the app include a facility for saving ram-team data and benchmarking ram teams against industry averages and the characteristics of rams listed on the latest catalogues.

We are looking forward to another successful year in 2017.
