The Sheep CRC will host an advanced level workshop for genetics service providers in Armidale on March 26th and 27th 2014. This workshop will provide training for using genomics testing in breeding programs.
The workshop will be delivered by Professor Julius van der Werf and Dr Stephen Lee with support from other geneticists located at UNE. The workshop will be a mixture of lectures on genetics and genomics, case study analysis and practical sessions using the modelling tools developed by Julius for estimating the impact of different selection and testing strategies with genomics testing. Participants will be expected to already have a good understanding of genetics theory, BLUP and breeding programs.
Participants will have the option to become accredited users of the modelling tools for breeding program design at the completion of the workshop.
There will be no charge to attend the workshop and the CRC will cover the costs of up to 10 people to attend the workshop.
