Kimba stud breeders, Bert and Barb Woolford, and their son Dion, of Karawatha Park Merinos, hosted a workshop after receiving increasing inquiry from their commercial clients for ASBV figures on their rams.

“With more breeders using ASBVs and more of our clients asking questions about how to use them, we thought the RamSelect workshop was a great way to show producers that ASBVs are not about reinventing the wheel, but something that can really assist them in their selection decision,” Bert Woolford said.

“We’ve been providing ASBVs on our rams for two years now and prior to that we were using ASBVs when purchasing rams for use in our flock.

“We’ve found them to be a really valuable tool for ram selection because they give you confidence when buying a ram that it will deliver the progeny you’re after.

“The best looking ram doesn’t always breed on the way you hope and that can often be an expensive mistake. By using ASBVs, as well as visual appraisal, it gives you confidence that the ram will deliver the progeny that meet your breeding objectives.”
