About this Project

The program will train at least 35 postgraduate students. These students will undertake studies in the sciences that underpin the sheep industry, including the traditional biological sciences and the sciences and management skills required for effective innovation, commercialisation and adoption of outcomes by the sheep industry. There will be an on-going professional development program associated with this project, as well as future tracking of graduate employment destinations following completion of their studies.

Business

The expected outcome of this project is to supply highly qualified professionals to service the shortfall in sheep industry needs and accelerate the delivery of innovation to the industry. This training output should provide an estimated $4 million to industry.

Description

The project will train 35 postgraduates to meet the demand for professionals within the sheep industry with postgraduate qualifications as identified by surveys such as that of Taylor Nelson Sofres Plc in 2004. Of these, 28 will be at PhD level and 7 at the Masters level. The successful program of scholarships, professional development activities in a range of areas including best practice innovation management, conferences and industry workshops of the current Australian Sheep Industry CRC will be continued. Strong links will be continued and extended with other agricultural CRCs to run joint workshops, conferences and other professional development activities.
